8 Ways to Stay Hydrated When the Temperature Drops

Brrr, it’s cold out there! As the temperature drops, we know the last thing you want to do is sip on icy beverages. But, staying hydrated during these chilly winter months is so important — especially in Calgary’s super-dry conditions. Thankfully, we’ve got some tips for you, and they’re not all about guzzling down freezing cold cups of water, so don’t worry.

1. Hot beverages count, too!

Typically, when we think of drinking liquids to stay hydrated, we think of cold water. But, good news: hot beverages are just as good. Sip on a hot cup of tea, or try hot water with lemon, cucumber or other fruits. It’s a delicious and comforting way to hydrate.

2. Cut down on caffeine and alcohol

Caffeine and alcohol leave your body dehydrated, so try to cut back. You just know your consumption levels will rise as the holidays approach, so cut back now in anticipation!

3. Wash your face with lukewarm water

Winter weather tends to dry out our skin, and we know it’s so tempting to rinse and wash in hot water, but listen up. Lukewarm water is your best bet, and will help save your skin from cracking and redness.

4. Moisturize!

Apply your body moisturizer as soon as you hop out of the shower. This will help lock in that added moisture your skin is craving. We love the Oraser Body Emulsion Plus By ZO Medical. This formula improves the quality, texture and overall health of the skin while reversing the look of dull, dry skin as well as brown spots, hyperpigmentation and loss of firmness.

5. Exfoliate and Treat Your Lips, Face and Hands

For body exfoliation, we’re loving: Oraser Correcting hand and Body Scrub by ZO Medical. This breakthrough hand and body exfoliation product makes a dramatic and immediate improvement in the appearance of dry, rough and scaly skin.

For lips, we love ZO Medical’s Liprebuild Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment. This replenishing formula is bioengineered to reverse severely dry, cracked and wrinkled lips using a clinically proven, moisture-recycling technology.

6. Hydrate with a Humidifier

Soak in that moisture while you’re getting your beauty sleep! So easy. For an added spa-like sensation, we suggest investing in an ultrasonic diffuser and adding your favourite essential oils.

7. Put your best face forward

Choose a hydrating moisturizer with SPF (which you should be using year-round). We love the Oclipse-C Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 by ZO Medical. This lightweight cream offers a daily, multi-defense system against UVA/UVB rays and HEV (high-energy visible AKA the glare from your computer screen!) light, which have been shown to induce skin cancer, premature aging and hyperpigmentation.

8. Eat your liquids

Fruits and veggies are a great and delicious way to get that extra hydration. Watermelon, strawberries, grapefruit and cantaloupe are all over 90 percent water!
